Internals: FirebugChrome

Submitted by Webmaster on Sunday April 12, 2009

I'm working to create a functional test for Firebug's Open-In-New-Window feature and then to get the feature to work again. In the process I think I've finally decoded how this feature works.

Here is the critical bit: Every Firebug window has a different copy of FirebugChrome, but they all share the same copy of the Firebug and FBL objects.

Lately, quite a few netbook makers and resellers are saying that buyers return Linux machines far more often than identical models running Windows XP. Linux Desktop Hardware Myths Explored

Submitted by Webmaster on Thursday April 09, 2009

Perhaps one of the most common myths surrounding desktop Linux is the belief that modern distributions do not provide decent hardware support.

It's unfortunate, but this thought pattern has been ingrained into the minds of many die-hard Windows users over the years. Many of them have only tried using Linux once or twice, at which point they experienced a problem that they attributed to poor hardware support.

Cost Replacing Functionality as Linux`s Appeal

Submitted by Webmaster on Thursday April 09, 2009

With a shrinking server market, financial services firms are porting more applications to Linux at the expense of Unix and other legacy platforms. While that has been an ongoing trend for many years, the motive has shifted in the past year from adding new functionality to reducing cost.

GPL's cloudy future

Submitted by Webmaster on Tuesday April 07, 2009

One of the things about getting older is that you learn to ignore things until you have to do something about them. It's a learned efficiency, I suppose, rationing your increasingly precious time out to the unceasing demands upon it. I finally realized I have to do some serious thinking about cloud computing.

Sun`s Six Biggest Mistakes

Submitted by Webmaster on Tuesday April 07, 2009

Like any star past its prime, Sun Microsystems is left with two choices: It can burn out, or it can fade away.

If the struggling server vendor had signed away its independence to IBM in exchange for the tech giant's offer of $7 billion, the deal would have been a sad end for a Silicon Valley icon once worth more than $200 billion.
