Submitted by Webmaster on Saturday January 24, 2009
At a time when computers were more like glorified typewriters, Apple introduced the Macintosh - and changed how people interacted with them. In exclusive interviews, Steve Wozniak, Apple's co-founder, and Andy Hertzfeld, one of the developers, recall how it happened.

Google`s wildcard watch
Submitted by Webmaster on Saturday January 24, 2009
Steve Ballmer, who just announced to the troops that Microsoft was firing 5,000 employees due to the recession, might be excused for wanting to slam his head against the wall at this point.
After reporting quarterly earnings, Google finished Friday up more than $18. So at this point, at least, it's still Google 1, Recession 0. The cool kids have the upper hand--at least for the time being.

Why You Should Always Log Out
Submitted by Webmaster on Saturday January 24, 2009
I can't tell you how many times I've gone to the library or a computer lab and found someone still logged into their user account. It used to make me angry. It used to make me wonder what was wrong with people. I don't know if they just forget or just don't care, but either way they deserve to be messed with for their stupidity. It took almost a year of my life to find these and to some degree I feel bad, but I'm pretty sure these people won't ever forget to log out again.

Remembering the 1984 Super Bowl Mac ad
Submitted by Webmaster on Saturday January 24, 2009
The fact that the Los Angeles Raiders humiliated the Washington Redskins in a 38-to-9 victory is a mere afterthought. Super Bowl XVIII's lasting legacy has been a single advertisement sandwiched somewhere in the third quarter: Apple Computer's iconic "1984" commercial.
It began, in a clear nod to George Orwell's novel of the same name, with tense strains of music, the image of figures marching through a tube across a dank industrial complex, and the start of a bizarre monologue: "Today we celebrate the first glorious anniversary of the Information Purification Directives."

The $1.42 billion loss, or $2.34 per share, was below the $1.77 billion loss, or $3.06 per share, reported a year ago but worse than Wall Street analysts had expected

Red Hat set to surpass Sun in market capitalization
Submitted by Webmaster on Friday January 23, 2009
In what may come to be seen as a deeply symbolic moment in the history of operating systems, Red Hat is on the verge of surpassing Sun Microsystems' market capitalization for the first time.
Sun, perhaps unfairly, represents a fading Unix market. Red Hat, for its part, represents the rising Linux market.

Remember today's date: January 22, 2009. It may go down in business history as the day that it became clear that proprietary software had been broken by Linux and open-source software.
First, Microsoft had its biggest layoffs in the company's history. Yes, Microsoft still makes billions, but, for the first time ever, Microsoft is staggering.
