Debian GNU/Linux 5.0 released

The Debian Project is pleased to announce the official release of Debian GNU/Linux version 5.0 (codenamed Lenny) after 22 months of constant development. Debian GNU/Linux is a free operating system which supports a total of twelve processor architectures and includes the KDE, GNOME, Xfce, and LXDE desktop environments. It also features compatibility with the FHS v2.3 and software developed for version 3.2 of the LSB.

Python 3.0.1 released

This is the first bugfix release of Python 3.0. Python 3.0 is now in bugfix-only mode; no new features are being added. Dozens of bugs that were reported since the release of 3.0 final have been fixed.

Facebook Surpasses 175 Million Users, Continuing to Grow by 600k Users/Day

Facebook has hit the 175,000,000 active user mark, just 5 weeks after it hit 150 million users in January. At this rate, Facebook has been growing by well over 600,000 users per day over the last several weeks, continuing the company's torrid growth pace.

A Critical Warning If You Are Using InnoDB Hot Backup

If you are using InnoDB Hot Backup and a recent version of mysqld (at least 5.0.67 or higher, including 5.1.30, though it may be later versions), your backup will run fine and output OK! at the end, as it should.

Drools goes Transactional

The last bit of work for Drools 5.0 is almost in place, where units of work can now be made transactionally. Here is a quick unit test that shows two transactions, the later with a rollback, notice the rolled back insertion does not have any affect.
