One of the possible approaches to improving Calc load performance is to separate the processing of individual sheets. The basic idea is that often a file with several sheets is loaded, but only some of the sheets are actually used for editing.

Gentoo: USB hard drives with SMART

A common way to check the health state of a hard disk is SMART. It gives various informations about occuring errors. In Linux, there's the smartmontools package containing tools to read SMART data of hard drives (smartctl -a /dev/[hddevice] gives you a bunch of information).

A key event was September 14, 2000, when Microsoft set a tiny snowball rolling with the release of the deeply flawed Windows Me. That snowball has been gaining momentum, despite some ups and downs along the way--XP was an up, for example.

When Microsoft purchased Hotmail in December of 1997 for an estimated $400m, it ran on FreeBSD. But Redmond ripped out the open source OS and replaced it with Windows 2000. Or at least, it tried to.

We've made more progress with SMS in Canada, this time with our friends at Rogers and Fido. Starting today, if you are a Twitterer as well as a customer of Rogers or Fido, then you can update via SMS and receive updates from Twitter via SMS.

Also builds ok on Enterprise Redhat Distro. What is next? :php , flamerobin and kinterbasdb for fedora

I recently tested Sun's VirtualBox v2.2. VirtualBox's Virtual Remote Desktop Protocol (VRDP) has been around for some time now. I was made aware of VRDP while listening to Jupiter Broadcasting In Depth Look. VRDP allows you to see the output of a virtual machine's window on any remote computer and control the virtual machine from there. I thought I'd test VirtualBox v2.2 VRDP.
